Report: New England Patriots Said Goodbye To Wide Receiver

The New England Patriots decided to release a wide receiver just to make enough room for Josh Gordon. This has to be related to the receiver who was reinstated a few days ago.

The Patriots released Dontrelle Inman, and the decision is official. The team signed Inman as a free agent on May 13, 2019.

The 30-year-old receiver entered the league as a rookie free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars out of Virginia on July 28, 2011. He was released at the end of training camp. Inman played two seasons with the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League and won the Grey Cup with Toronto in 2012.

The receiver re-joined the NFL in 2014 with the San Diego Chargers where he spent three and a half seasons. The Chargers traded him to the Chicago Bears on Oct. 26, 2017. Last season, he inked a contract with the Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 16, 2018. He played nine regular-season contests and had four starts. Inman was able to catch 28 passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns. He played in the Colts playoff games with one start and eight receptions for 108 yards and a touchdown.

Inman played in 58 NFL regular-season games with 34 starts while totaling 158 receptions for 2,101 yards and 11 touchdowns. His greatest season happened with the Chargers in 2016. That season, Inman caught 58 passes for 810 yards and four touchdowns.

So, yes, Inman is out and Josh Gordon is back. The Patriots put him on the non-football injury list. This gives the team the right to not pay a base salary to him due to his suspension. Players on this list are still included in the 90-man roster, and may be removed from it at any point. Gordon won’t be allowed to practice or take part in a game until the Patriots remove him from the NFI list.

Gordon was suspended for violating the league’s drug policy. Before his suspension, Gordon decided to step away from the field and work on his mental health.

“We are all rooting for Josh to succeed, both personally and professionally,” NFL commissioner Goodell said in a statement. “Everyone shares in that hope and will continue to support him to every extent possible. But as Josh acknowledged, ultimately his success is up to him.”
