Patriots Signing Ex-Packers FB Could Mark End of James Develin’s Tenure

Some fans don’t really pay attention to the fullbacks in a team. Well, James Develin and Jakob Johnson are here to teach them a lesson. The Patriots nation didn’t consider these two an option for 2019. However, their injuries did the speaking. Develin was out and so was Johnson. Linebacker Elandon Roberts had to make room for Sony Michel and Rex Burkhead. There were so many miscalculations in this aspect. The Patriots made a move, and it may affect James Develin’s future with the team.

New England accounted for Develin’s absence. The team also suggested that his days in Foxboro are numbered. Former Packers fullback Dan Vitale will take part in the game in 2020.  He may be talented and skilled. But, the Patriots nation wants the three-time champion better.

Will Develin move on from the Patriots? Will he ink a deal somewhere else? It’s a rather tricky situation for the team.

According to recent reports, Develin’s time in the league has come to an end.

Are the Patriots worried about James Develin’s future?

Fullbacks don’t really get a big ‘thank you.’ Sadly, Develin was only noticed in the 2014 AFC Title Game and few other similar moments. But, he did a really good job for the team’s ground yardage in the second dynastic peak.

Vitale may be a good replacement. However, the Patriots are losing a sense of continuity here. How will head coach Bill Belichick handle this moment? New England has to take a few options into consideration.

Michael Giardi wrote that the Patriots’ run game struggled without a fullback once Develin and Johnson sustained injuries. The team was forced to give LB Elandon Robert’s some reps. Vitale is tough and has the needed physique. Giardi was actually the one to mention the word ‘retirement.’ Develin may be on his way out of the league. We won’t jump into conclusions at the moment.

New England will undergo series of changes. They lost quarterback Tom Brady in free agency. Several other players signed contracts elsewhere. Let’s see what happens in the next few weeks. Replacing Brady may seem like a priority at the moment. However, Belichick has a few other concerns on his mind.
