Stephon Gilmore Talks Up Jarrett Stidham After Tom Brady Exit

Tom Brady left the New England Patriots after two decades. The Patriots will have to find a new starting quarterback. That player will have enormous shoes to fill. During his time with the Patriots, Brady won six Super Bowl rings, four Super Bowl MVPs and 14 Pro Bowl selections. The GOAT set the bar pretty high. Many believe the Patriots won’t have any success after Brady’s departure. But Patriots cornerback Stephen Gilmore has faith in Jarrett Stidham. The young quarterback will probably replace Brady in 2020.

According to Gilmore, the Patriots’ 2019 fourth-round pick forced him to work harder in practice last season.

The Patriots have a few options to consider. Veteran Brian Hoyer and USC product Cody Kessler are ready to step in if given a chance.

“Stidham came in and worked hard and got better and better as the year went on. He has a strong arm,” Gilmore said of Stidham. “He makes some tough throws. Definitely made it hard on me in practice each and every week, going against whoever I was covering, making some great throws. It allowed me to get better in practice to prepare for the games.”

Stephon Gilmore trusts Jarrett Stidham

Gilmore is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year. Seeing Brady leave the organization didn’t come as a surprise for him. Brady signed a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This deal will give him $60 million. It’s the best deal Brady could ever get in free agency.

“Not surprised,” Gilmore said. “A player like him, playing somewhere that long, you never can see it, but it shows you that in the National Football League, it can be anyone going somewhere. It’s a business, and that’s how you have to look at it.”

Devin McCourty has high expectations from the Patriots in 2020. He believes the team will have success despite Brady’s exit. Brady helped the Patriots win games, but his former team can have equal success in 2020. Let’s see what happens in September. Will head coach Bill Belichick go with Stidham? Or will he use another option? Maybe the Pats will draft a quarterback.
