Bills’ Sean McDermott Explains Why Patriots Still Are Favorite In AFC East

The New England Patriots will enter the 2020 season without Tom Brady and a bunch of new players. In other words, the Patriots will have a completely different role in the AFC East. However, Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott still sees the Patriots as “the top dog.”

Jarrett Stidham will probably become the starting quarterback for the Patriots. The Miami Dolphins got Tua Tagovailoa, and he will take the starting position in 2020. The New York Jets packed the offensive line, and the Buffalo Bills have incredible defense. This makes the Bills definitely a playoff contender.

The AFC East may look different, but McDermott still considers the Patriots contenders. In his interview with Albert Breer from Sports Illustrated, McDermott shared the reasons he has to say this.

“Anytime you bring up some of those words — expectations, pressure —–number one, I think it shows you that people respect the way we’re doing things overall, which is nice,” McDermott said. “But number two, and just as important, the Patriots, look, they’ve won the division for X amount of years. … Until someone is able to win the division, to us, the Patriots remain the favorite. Why shouldn’t they? You tell me one reason why they shouldn’t. We’ve got a lot of work to do, we really do. And our players work hard, there’s no doubt about that. I think that’s the one thing that I can say: We embrace that we’ve got to earn things.”

The Patriots are ready to dominate the AFC East

The Patriots will face a new challenge in September. The organization will have a completely different look, and Bill Belichick will have to do a few adjustments. His winning formula will have to undergo some changes now that Brady is gone.

The 2020 NFL Draft was really successful for the Patriots. Belichick and Nick Caserio added a group of talented players. They will need all the talent in 2020 to finish the season with great success. When it comes to Brady, he is ready to enter a new season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Rob Gronkowski will join him, and they make an excellent duo at the moment. Let’s see what happens in September.
