NFL Insider Exposes Patriots Biggest Weakness Entering 2020 Season

The New England Patriots lost Tom Brady and added Cam Newton. The former Carolina Panthers quarterback won the NFL MVP award in 2015, and head coach Bill Belichick has great plans for his talent. But, will Newton take the starting role in September? The Patriots have to make so many decisions regarding their 2020 season, and an NFL insider has discussed their biggest weakness.

We don’t know who the Week 1 starting quarterback will be. Every player has to work extra hard to help the team win games.

Jeremy Bergman talked about the Patriots’ worst weakness lies on the other side of the ball. There were too many offseason departures, and Bergman is worried about the linebacker squad.

“Yes, New England’s tight ends are anonymous youths, and its rookie kicker once boasted more controversial tattoos (reportedly since removed) than pre-draft profiles. But the Pats’ most troubled position is linebacker, where they lost Jamie Collins to, again, Pats Midwest and Kyle Van Noy and Elandon Roberts to Patriots South,” Bergman wrote for NFL.com. “New England is left with stalwart Dont’a Hightower and a slew of unprovens, including second-round pick Josh Uche, third-round pick Anfernee Jennings, second-year pro (and Uche’s former Michigan teammate) Chase Winovich and third-year pro Ja’Whaun Bentley. So while continuity will work for New England’s secondary in this unparalleled offseason, the lack of the same works against its LB corps. Behind a thin defensive line, the Pats’ ‘backers are greener than the Belichicks have been used to in recent years.”

The Patriots will play big in 2020

The insider may be right. All the talks about the team’s pass-catching unit have neutralized the talks about the linebacker situation. Hightower plays his best football, but he has to stay healthy to finish the season with success. Winovich and Bentley will see bigger roles in 2020. Patriots linebackers are talented. The only problem lies with their full potential. Will players live up to their full potential? Let’s see what happens in the next few weeks. Belichick has so many decisions to make.

The Patriots lost valuable players, and Belichick has to cover up a few holes. It’s a challenging season for everyone, including the star head coach.
