It Sure Sounds Like Cam Newton Is The Patriots’ Starting Quarterback

The New England Patriots entered the offseason with Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer on the roster. Head coach Bill Belichick and Nick Caserio didn’t select a quarterback. Many thought that the Patriots will have Stidham under center. It looks like the team had different plans. Cam Newton joined the Patriots, and he will probably be the next starting quarterback for the team. How do we know this?

The Patriots have entered training camp and Newton is doing an incredible job. Stidham sustained a hip injury and won’t join the team in the next few weeks. Everything points to the fact that Newton will start games in September.

“Cam Newton won the first week of the Patriots’ quarterback competition, Jeff Howe of The Athletic reporter. “[Newton] continued to solidify his place in the race for the top job Sunday,” he added later in the weekend. According to him, “the Patriots are working on overdrive to get him up to speed for the season.”

Mike Reiss from ESPN reported that the second-year quarterback is “fading” in the QB frame.

Cam Newton has higher chance to become a starting quarterback

Phil Perry from NBC Boston also reported that Newton will snatch the job.

The Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan reported that the former Carolina Panthers quarterback is creating separation.

“Newton ran the offense with greater command, completed 65 percent of his passes in competitive settings and continued to unlock more possibilities as a runner,” he wrote. “The starting quarterback job is his to lose. Any day you can pull away with a starting job is a good day. Newton is clearly further along mentally than he was at the start of training camp and whipped a few pinpoint passes downfield. His grasp of the Patriots offense is growing.”

Mark Daniels from The Providence Journal also agrees that Newton is getting the job. Mike Giardi from the NFL Network made similar claims.

Really quite terrific for Cam Newton in the sense that it looks like it’s slowing down for him right now, and that he’s feeling more and more comfortable with the offense,” Giardi said. “With Sitdham now limited, it appears that it’s Cam’s job to lose.”

Experts made these reports in Stidham’s absence. His hip injury limited him to partake in individual drills. Stidham had to watch from the sideline in 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 periods.

Of course, Stidham is still in the game. But, his absence sure gives Newton an advantage.
