Report: Patriots Adjust Lawrence Guy Contract

The New England Patriots have reworked the contract defensive tackle Lawrence Guy had with the team. The organization increased his 2020 salary by $200,000. Guy will also see increased per-game roster bonuses. ESPN’s Field Yates reported that the Patriots have increased his bonuses by $700,000.

The Patriots removed two play-time incentives from Guy’s contracts that totaled $900,000. According to Yates, Guy has a greater chance to get the full value of his contract following the adjustments.

The defensive tackle will enter his fourth season with the Patriots. This is the final year of Guy’s four-year deal worth $15.3 million. The 10-year veteran has played an important role in the Patriots defensive interior. Experts believe that he will keep the same pace in the upcoming season.

Lawrence Guy deserves better contract

Guy started 31 games at Arizona State and entered the league as a seventh-round selection for the Green Bay Packers in the 2011 NFL Draft. He didn’t really see action in a game for the Packers. Guy spent his rookie season on injured reserve after suffering a concussion in training camp. In 2012, the Packers had Guy on their practice squad. The Indianapolis Colts signed Guy off of the team and had him in 12 games. They released him the following season.

The then-San Diego Chargers claimed the degensive tackle off the waiver wire. Guy played in 15 games for the team in 2013 and 2014. The team released him and he signed with the Baltimore Ravens in September 2014. He spent more than two seasons with the Ravens and played in 45 regular season and postseason games.

In 2017, Guy signed a four-year deal with the Patriots. He played in 48 regular season games and seven playoff games. Guy earned his Super Bowl ring in 2018 and was named to the organization’s team of the 2010s. This is his 10th year in the NFL and Giy has an impressive résumé. He made 126 game appearances and one Super Bowl.

Guy comes off the best season of his career. Everything pointed to the fact that the Patriots want to have him on the field. The defense needs him.
