Patriots Reportedly Are a Potential Landing Spot For Former No.1 Pick

Veteran quarterback Cam Newton can still help the New England Patriots make the playoffs. But, fans and experts are full of doubts, and some of them have made predictions regarding the upcoming season. According to the most recent speculation, the Patriots may be the perfect landing spot for a former No. 1 pick.

Is Sam Darnold making his way to New England? Several teams have shown interest in getting the New York Jets player. However, the Patriots are definitely considered favorites to get him. Will the Jets agree to trade their quarterback?

Patriots may be a good landing spot for Darnold

The 23-year-old wasn’t able to help the Jets solve all their problems. Moreover, the Jets have a league-worst 0-11 record. They are already focused on the top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Experts say he is generational talent, and it’s more than obvious that the Jets won’t keep two young quarterbacks on the soter. In other words, New York may get rid of Darnold and get new assets for Lawrence.

When it comes to the Patriots, their starting quarterback has seen some struggles on the field. Some fans have already called for the Patriots to move on from Newton.

New England doesn’t really trust Jarrett Stidham either. He was selected in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, but didn’t live up to the expectations.

Tom Brady left the Patriots in the offseason, and the team got Newton as a starting quarterback. He took the Patriots to a 5-6 record. The team may be going after another quarterback this spring.

SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano wrote more on Darnold’s chances to become a Patriot.

“All you need to know about Bill Belichick’s commitment to young Jarrett Stidham is that he went out and signed Cam Newton to run the Patriots in their first post-Brady season. There have long been rumors that Belichick loved Darnold in the 2018 draft. But there’s no way Douglas would even consider sending a franchise quarterback to the Patriots. It would be the most Jet-thing ever if he did that and Darnold went to New England and finally became a star.”
