ESPN Poses Biggest Question Still To Be Answered For Patriots

ESPN analyst have a few theories about the New England Patriots and some of these make perfect sense. Patriots players are focused on July and August, and one particular player will have to make a progress.

Who will lead the Patriots offense in 2021? It all depends on training camp and the preseason. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said that Cam Newton will be his quarterback in Week 1. Of course, Newton will be the starting signal caller until he is outperformed. Maybe the 2015 NFL MVP will try even harder to beat competition. Jarrett Stidham, Cam Newton, and Brian Hoyer are here to fight for the position. The next two months are really important for the Patriots.

ESPN set the right question for the Patriots

There’s huge uncertainty hovering over the quarterback position. ESPN has just set the biggest questions for Belichick’s team.

“Will (Mac) Jones challenge Newton for the starting job?” Mike Reiss wrote for ESPN.com. “There was a temptation to highlight whether the defense — with considerably more talent in 2021 — could return to form. But that seems to be overthinking it. So much centers around quarterback play, and when Jones had it going in spring practices, the Patriots’ offense looked the closest to what it had been over the majority of the past two decades from a timing, anticipation and accuracy standpoint. Newton also looked more comfortable.”

Recent reports suggest that the rookie quarterback has lived up to the Patriots expectations. Of course, you should take this with a grain of salt given the nature of OTAS and NFL minicamp. We’d definitely agree that this is enough to yield optimism for the rookie quarterback.

Jones is an excellent fit for Belichick’s offense. Maybe the head coach will change his mind and give Jones a chance to lead the team in the regular season. Jones is a talented player and he has already made a good first impression. Let’s see what happens this summer. Newton has all the motivation he needs to lead the team. Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels noticed it.
