Keyshawn Johnson Delivers Confident Take On Patriots QB Situation

The New England Patriots are dealing with a sweet problem right now. Head coach Bill Belichick has to pick between Cam Newton and Mac Jones. The quarterback battle has attracted the attention of many analysts around the nation. Everyone wants to share their theory on the Patriots QB situation.

The regular season will start in a week and the Patriots have yet to make a decision on their starting quarterback.

Well, Belichick had an interview and said that players will have to do really good to beat Newton. They have to be better than him.

Keyshawn Johnson shared his thoughts on the competition. Well, according to him, there’s no competition in New England. This gives us a different aspect into the so-called quarterback battle.

The Patriots QB situation is clear

Johnson was asked about the QB battle in New England on Monday. The former NFL wide receiver said that Newton earned his position at the very same moment he got the contract. There’s more. Johnson believes that Newton will be Belichick’s starting quarterback for a really long time.

“Quite honestly, there is no edge,” Johnson said on ESPN’s “Get Up,” as transcribed by WEEI. “Cam Newton is the starting quarterback of the New England Patriots Week 1. Bill Belichick has said that. He continuously says that and he will not elaborate on it. This is somewhat of a manufactured media story as far as I’m concerned based on how Cam Newton played last year. Clearly, Cam is the starter. They went out in the offseason and upgraded at a number of positions to give him the necessary help.

“When you look at him (Thursday) night or even in Week 1 of preseason, you can tell he’s comfortable now sliding in the pocket, getting the proper depth, delivering the football. Mac Jones is going to be the starter of the New England Patriots in the future, not today. He is getting better. He’s a pro quarterback, no question about it. But everyone wants to speed the clock up for whatever reason. They just want to speed it up and say, ‘Hey, Mac Jones is pushing Cam Newton.’ He’s not pushing him. He really isn’t.”

Newton said that the team hasn’t told him that he will start games in September. However, he is not someone who brags around, so maybe he will let Belichick answer this question. Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels said Newton will start games. Belichick needs someone to outperform Newton to get the job.
