Further Unpacking Odell Beckham Jr. Conversation With Bill Belichick

The New England Patriots need a strong receiving option at the moment. Julian Edelman’s retirement came like a big surprise, and the Patriots were left without a star wide receiver. The team did efforts to sign a few players, and Odell Beckham Jr. almost ended up playing for Bill Belichick. It didn’t happen though.

The whole story started when Beckham voiced his concerns. He wasn’t happy in Cleveland, and the Browns ended up releasing him. As you may be guessing, Belichick tried his shot. It didn’t work and Beckham signed a deal with the Los Angeles Rams.

Odell Beckham would have been a good fit for Bill Belichick and his gameplan

Beckham and Belichick talked, but there was one major obstacle. Tom Brady. Beckham would have chosen the Patriots in different circumstances. Brady left the Patriots to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and that’s what pushed Beckham away from New England. He would gladly catch passes from Brady.

Belichick’s offer wasn’t enough and Beckham took his talents to LA. It was a bold move and a good one too. His team is really close to making the Super Bowl this season, but first, his team will have to beat the Cincinnati Bengals. When it comes to the Patriots, they lost the wild-card game to the Buffalo Bills. They missed the chance to compete for the title. In other words, Beckham played really smart. He may still get his ring as Rams star.

Belichick spent a lot of money to get Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith last offseason. He also has Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne. However, he really needs a strong wide receiver like Julian Edelman. Beckham was close to Jules, but he is trying his chances somewhere else.

Mac Jones will be throwing passes to these players unless Belichick adds another receiver to the roster. It will be a long offseason for the Patriots and Belichick has all the time in this world to find players who can actually fill up the empty spots on the roster. Odell is not coming to New England. Who is next on the list?
