NFL Expert Floats Calvin Ridley-Patriots Trade, Suggests Chris Godwin Pursuit

The New England Patriots are expected to make some big changes in 2022. They have entered the offseason a little too early, and Bill Belichick is on his way to pull out the first move. According to several reports, the Patriots may engage in the Chris Godwin pursuit.

Are you surprised?

Enter Calvin Ridley. He sat out most of the 2021 NFL season for obvious reasons. Initial reports suggest that he plans to join the Atlanta Falcons. How will the Patriots handle this?

The Patriots to engage in the Chris Godwin pursuit

Bill Barnwell of ESPN shared his comments on the Patriots and their connection with Ridley. Let’s not forget that Barnwell was the one who suggested that the Patriots should get Godwin.

“… The Bucs seem likely to let Chris Godwin leave in free agency after franchising him a year ago. Godwin tore an ACL in December, but the Pats don’t have players who can do all of the things he can do. They have receivers who can stretch the field and guys who can make tough catches, but Godwin does both at a high level.

“The other alternative for the Patriots would be Falcons wideout Calvin Ridley, who missed most of the season to address his mental health. Ridley was a superstar during his last full season with Atlanta, averaging 2.5 yards per route run and 9.4 yards per target. The 27-year-old has reportedly discussed a fresh start with the Falcons, who might need to use him to help rebuild their defense. There’s an obvious fit between these two teams; a second-round pick and little-used edge rusher Chase Winovich should be enough to get Ridley to New England.”

New England could use pretty much every available option on the market. Belichick found his franchise quarterback and he’d definitely want to pack the roster with talented players. Is Godwin one of them?

Belichick will have to play smart to fix his roster and get the players he needs. Mac Jones is here. He just needs a bunch of weapons to unleash his full potential.
