Dolphins GM Shares New Insight Into DeVante Parker Trade With Patriots

The New England Patriots didn’t make too many big moves in the offseason. DeVante Parker joined the Patriots through a trade and this is the only big move Belichick made so far. The Patriots need receivers and Parker seems like a good option for the franchise.

Patriots director of player personnel Mattew Groh said Matt Patricia helped the Patriots snatch Parker.

The talented player really wanted to join the Patriots. Playing with Bill Belichick is a big deal and Parker will try to get the best of it.

Miami Dolphins General Manager Chris Grier shared details of the trade surrounding Parker.

“You’ve seen over the years more teams doing inter-division trades,” Grier told the media. “Which, before, when I first started here, you’d never do that. I think the last time we did it was with our current receiver coach (Wes Welker) — which didn’t turn out well for us then.

“But I think, when you have an opportunity to right by the player and the organization, both sides feel good about it… like I said, this was never anything where we planned to trade DeVante. … Once we made the trade for Tyreek (Hill), we received multiple phone calls. I think most teams assumed that … DeVante would be (available). Multiple teams called. The Patriots were the most aggressive. And, at the end of the day, worked with the agent, talked to DeVante, wanted to do right by him, too, as well. But getting that third-round pick was very important for us, and we were fine with this year or next year.”

The Dolphins selected Parker with the 14th overall in the 2015 NFL Draft. He spent seven seasons with the Dolphins and NFL experts had great expectations from him. Well, Parker sustained serious injuries. He played his best football in 2019, catching 72 balls for 1,202 yards and nine scores.

The Patriots will make a big splash in the 2022 NFL Draft, getting the right number of new names for the new roster.
