Patriots Bring in Hall of Famer Son in Free Agency

The New England Patriots finished the 2021 NFL season with a wild-card loss to the Buffalo Bills. Head coach Bill Belichick had a good roster last season, but he had to do some rearrangements to make things work much better. The Patriots traded for DeVante Parker and also made a few minor moves. They had an opportunity to select great players in the 2022 NFL Draft. Well, Belichick shocked fans with each and every move he made. Getting Cole Strange in the first round was a really bold move. According to several sources, the Patriots reached out for the son of one Hall of Famer.

The 2022 NFL Draft is over and Belichick is now looking for the best undrafted free agents on the market. This player will really stand out this offseason.

Patriots fans know the Hall of Famer really well

The University of Rhode Island tweeted that the Patriots will welcome defensive back Coby Tippett in training camp. Are you shocked? You shouldn’t be. The Patriots lost a few valuable players in free agency, including J.C. Jackson. He was one of the better players on Belichick’s roster. Losing him was a huge blow for the Patriots roster. Jackson made a few worrisome comments about his future in New England. First, he said that the Patriots didn’t really appreciate him. Second, he got a good offer early in the offseason.

Patriots fans have great expectations from someone from the Tippett family. Tippett is the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Andre Tippett. New England got him in the second round of the 1982 NFL Draft.

Tippett played in 151 games for New England. No one has ever delivered more sacks than him in team history. Tippett was an All-Pro twice in his NFL career. He also made five Pro Bowls. So, yes, he had an incredible career.

Tippett entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2008. He was inducted in the Patriots Hall of Fame in 1999. The talented linebacker was also named Hall of Fame All-1980s team.

In 2021, Tippett scored 41 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, an interception, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. He is a speedy player who ran 4.41-second 40-yard dash at the Pro Day. During his time at URI, Tippett was a punt returner. On his third team he played safety.

Belichick will definitely appreciate a versatile player like him.
