Legendary Dante Scarnecchia Played Critical Role In Patriots Dynasty

Bill Belichick’s hiring was a game-changer for the New England Patriots. He selected Tom Brady in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft. Belichick and Brady built a dynasty and won six Super Bowls together. Well, NFL fans will definitely admit that Dante Scarnecchia actually played a really big role in the Patriots dynasty.

Scarnecchia joined the organization long time ago. Fun fact? Brady was five back then and Belichick was an assistant coach in New York. The Patriots hired Scarnecchia in 1982 and he was happy to become their special teams and tight ends coach. Hiring Scarnecchia turned out to be a big deal for the Patriots as they made the playoffs for the first time in four seasons. Scarnecchia helped the Patriots make the first Super Bowl in the 1985 season. We can definitely say that Scarnecchia turned the Patriots into contenders.

During today’s Patriots Hall of Fame nomination committee meeting, Robert Kraft showed up to announce that he is naming Dante Scarnecchia as a 2023 inductee — in the contributor category.

Scarnecchia, in attendance as a member of the committee, was stunned.

The Patriots lost Scarnechia in 1989. He joined the Indianapolis Colts and his former team went 6-26 in two seasons. Scarnecchia changed his mind and returned to the Patriots in 1991. Everything fell back in place and the Patriots became contenders again.

In 2000, Scarnecchia became assistant head coach and offensive line coach. The Patriots won a title in the following year. Brady was slowly building his career and the Patriots relied on their rushing game.

Patriots dynasty grew stronger with Scarnecchia on the team

Scarnecchia decided to call it career following the 2013 season. He didn’t leave the organization completely and celebrated their grand success in 2014. In 2016, Scarnecchia took over the Patriots offensive line and the team won another title. The Patriots won another championship in 2018 and Scarnecchia was there to cheer up on his guys.

Patriots fans are grateful for everything Scarnecchia did in his time with the team. The Kraft family appreciates his greatness and Scarnecchia became the first assistant coach in the Patriots Hall of Fame. It’s a great honor for brilliant Scarnecchia. He worked really hard to get here.
