Patriots Proposed Trade Sends 4-Time Pro Bowl Wide Receiver To New England

The New England Patriots need strong wide receiver and Gary Davenport says they can pull out a big trade move. Head coach Bill Belichick could use Mike Evans and adjust his offense to perfection.

Davenport advised the Patriots to trade for Evans and get the best of his experience. The Patriots are coming off a bad season and their roster needs reshaping. Evans is a four-time Pro Bowler and getting him makes perfect sense.

Mac Jones’ position doesn’t look good at the moment and he may lose his starting job. Some say he will work better with a 1,000-yard receiver on the field. This makes Evans a really good fit for Belichick’s roster. In 2022, he had 77 receptions for 1,124 yards and six touchdowns. He delivered 27 touchdowns in the previous two seasons.

“Over his nine seasons in the NFL, Mike Evans has been one of the most consistent wide receivers the league has even known,” Davenport wrote. “As a matter of fact, Evans has done something no other wideout ever has—hit the 1,000-yard mark in all nine of his professional seasons.”

Patriots need money to trade for the wide receiver

The Buccaneers wide receiver has a career average of 15.3 yards per reception and his longest reception goes over 45 yards every season.

“However, as consistent and productive as Evans has been throughout his career, he appeared last year to have lost a step —he averaged less than 15 yards a catch for the third straight year and scored his fewest touchdowns since 2017,” Davenport wrote.

The Buccaneers may be looking for a suitable trade partner at the moment. Evans has a year left on his contract and he may leave the team sooner than expected. Tom Brady is not around anymore which could accelerate Evans’ departure.

“The Buccaneers could accelerate a rebuild with the draft capital gained in trading Evans,” Davenport wrote. “And even if Evans isn’t the dominant force he once was, he could still make a big difference for a contending team.”

Kendrick Bourne could be on his way out of New England. Belichick has $12.37 million in cap space and Evans would need a bit more. This makes us believe that the Patriots will make a few moves and get rid of some players in order to increase their cap space.
