Lakers Eyeing Reunion With Big Man Following Release

The Los Angeles Lakers released Mo Bamba before the start of free agency, but it seems like they would gladly agree to a reunion with the big man.

The Lakers got Bamba in the Patrick Beverley trade. He is an incredible player, but the Lakers didn’t get the best of his game. The big man saw action in just nine game before suffering an ankle injury. He did join his team in the postseason, but didn’t see much playing time.

Jovan Buha from The Athletic reported that the Lakers will be looking for another big man to fill the 14th roster spot.

“L.A. is targeting another big man with its 14th roster spot,” Buha reported. “They are likely to carry 14 guaranteed contracts into the season, leaving one roster spot open. Mo Bamba, whom the Lakers waived on Thursday, and Tristan Thompson, who joined the team right before their playoff run, remain options to fill that 14th spot, according to league sources. The big man market has been dry so far during this free-agency period, so the Lakers could also wait to see if better options present themselves.”

Lakers need another big man, so this reunion could become reality soon

The Lakers could use both Bamba and Thompson. Bamba is relatively younger than Thompson. The latter is 32, but can still play at a high level.

The Lakers lost Dennis Schroder to the Toronto Raptors. However, they did keep Rui Hachimura, Austin Reaves, and D’Angelo Russell on the roster. They also signed a few new names who can elevate the game. NBA analysts made great predictions about Taurean Prince, Gabe Vincent, Jaxson Hayes, and Cam Reddish.

Losing Schroder was a blow for the Patriots. He has championship experience and great skills. However, Vincent will step in as a decent replacement.

The Lakers could try their chances with Bamba and see if he performs at a high level in the upcoming season. Will he put on a Lakers uniform again? Rob Pelinka would gladly add another big man to the roster.
