Lakers Sign Promising Young Forward To 4-Year Deal

The Los Angeles Lakers decided to make a move and offer a great deal to a young forward. Maxwell Lewis is one of the youngest talents on Rob Pelinka’s roster and he has now signed a four-year deal with the team. The Lakers played smart and decided to keep the young player around for a while.

Pelinka traded up in the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft to get the No.40 pick. It was a great way to add more strength to the roster. Yes, Lewis was picked in the second round of the draft, but he will get a lot of money from the team.

Lakers decided to sign the young forward for a reason

The Las Vegas native played basketball at Pepperdine University for two seasons. He is an athletic basketball player with great jumping skills who can also be a 3-and-D player in the league. NBA experts predicted him to be a first-round pick.

Lewis didn’t play his best basketball in the NBA Summer League. He wasn’t really bragging around about his skills. However, he did show great performance in Sunday’s game against the Charlotte Hornets, delivering 12 points on 5-of-9 field-goal shooting while excelling at both of his 3-point shots.

The Lakers need all the help they can get at this point. They needed 3-and-D wings last season and it seems like they have found one in Lewis. Fun fact? The Lakers already got Taurean Prince and Max Christie. It seems like Darvin Ham has great depth at this point.

The Lakers made the Eastern Conference Finals this past season but couldn’t get past the Denver Nuggets. Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets were really efficient in the series against LA and the results are here. Denver won the championship and Jokic was the NBA Finals MVP.

This loss motivated the Lakers to try even harder this offseason. They will rely on LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the upcoming season, but they have to think of the future as well. Signing Lewis makes perfect sense for the team at this point.
