Ex Patriots, Michigan Football LB Confirms Retirement From NFL

Former New England Patriots linebacker Chase Winovich took to his Instagram to confirm his retirement from the NFL. He didn’t spend much time in the league, but he thought it was the perfect time to go.

Wino is grateful for the experience and all the great moments he had as a NFL player. He is “beyond blessed and deeply grateful” to have the opportunity to do what he loves the most. Millions of people watched him play and it felt great.

The former linebacker quoted Matthew Slater saying that “we all owe football something.” Winovich also quoted his grandmother, telling the world that “it’s only bye for now.” He thanked his loved ones, his friends, his teammates, coaches and pretty much everyone involved in the game. He worked with an excellent team and now is the perfect time to say ‘goodbye’.

Winovich joined the NFL as a third-round pick for the Patriots in the 2019 NFL Draft. He had a fruitful career at Michigan and played several positions. He tried his chances as a linebacker, tight end, and even defensive end.

His rookie season was great. In the second game of the season, Winovich had 1.5 sacks in the great win over the Miami Dolphins. Wino was named NFL Rookie of the Week following this performance.

Tom Brady-led Patriots tried to get the best from Winovich. Brady enjoyed cracking jokes about the blonde rookie throughout the entire season and it was more than obvious that Wino is a good fit for the Patriots. He tried his best and spent three seasons on their roster. In his 45 games as a Patriot, Winovich had 11 sacks, 86 tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception.

The Patriots parted ways with Winovich in 2022. They sent him to Cleveland in the Mack Wilson trade. Winovich suffered an injury in Week 2 and ended up on the injured reserve list. He played just eight games with the Browns.

The Houston Texans offered Winovich a one-year deal in March but waived him before the start of the season. He joined the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad in August, but played just three games with the team. The Dolphins waived him on October 17.
