Patriots’ Strange Free Agency Move That ‘Shocked’ Jakobi Meyers

The New England Patriots had a terrible start to the regular season. They have lost four games so far in the season. Head coach Bill Belichick found himself in hot water and some people even ask for Robert Kraft to fire him. Firing the legendary head coach was never an option for the Kraft family. Belichick helped the team make nine Super Bowls and win six championships. There’s another problem. Several players don’t seem to be happy with the decisions Patriots made. Jakobi Meyers left the team in free agency, leaving a big hole on the roster.

The roster has big holes and Belichick has to find suitable replacement for both Christian Gonzales and Matthew Judon. The offense struggles and so does the defense. Meyers left the team, but the Patriots didn’t really try to keep him around.

Meyers had to accept the free agency decision

Andrew Callahan reported that the Patriots didn’t show any interest in having Meyers on the 2023 roster. He joined the Las Vegas Raiders and will travel to New England to challenge his former team.

“Days before signing with Las Vegas, a shocked Meyers told inquiring teammates and staffers: “They don’t want me.” One league source indicated the Pats weren’t even the runner-up for Meyers, despite entering free agency with the sixth-most cap space in the NFL. This week, Bill Belichick claimed Meyers was a priority in an offseason when he re-signed 13 of the Patriots’ 16 other free agents. Did Belichick believe the two sides were ever close?”

The Patriots took a different route and let Meyers go. They signed Juju Smith-Schuster and it was supposed to be a good decision. The talented wide receiver met expectations in 2022, but the Patriots didn’t get the best of his game.

Unlike Smith-Schuster, Meyers has a good season with the Raiders. They do not have the best record at the moment, but Meyers is doing an excellent job.

Belichick will have to coach against his former offensive coordinator and one of his better players. How will this end?
