‘Old School-Minded’ Cowboys Coach A Possible Replacement For Patriots Bill Belichick

The New England Patriots could part ways with head coach Bill Belichick in the offseason and hire a Dallas Cowboys coach instead, per recent reports.

Team owner Robert Kraft has yet to discuss Belichick’s future with the Patriots. If he ever plans to replace Belichick, he will probably go for someone with experience on the defensive side of the ball. Kraft always picks coaches with a background in defense. If he continues the tradition, Kraft could easily grab Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.

Jordy McElroy from USA Today discussed this scenario. According to McElroy, Quinn “is an old school-minded, yet effective, defensive coach. He could keep the Patriots defense in elite form, and if coupled with the right offensive coordinator, the pair could do magic in New England.”

Patriots could use the Dallas Cowboys coach to replace Belichick

Quinn has a history with Belichick’s Patriots. What does that mean?

“They first handed his Legion of Boom defense with the Seattle Seahawks a loss in Super XLIX, and then they completed the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history at Super Bowl LI, when he was the head coach for the Atlanta Falcons,” McElroy added.

Quinn tried his best to rebuild his reputation with the Cowboys. He has great experience on the defensive end of the ball. In other words, Quinn can help the Patriots build the best defense in the entire NFL. Well, the Patriots deal with issues on the offense, and maybe Kraft will opt for someone with experience as an offensive coach.

Mike Reiss from ESPN noted that the Patriots have the best run defense in the league.

“By holding the Chiefs to 43 rushing yards on 22 carries (2.2 average) Sunday, the Patriots’ run defense firmly maintained its top NFL ranking in average yards per rush allowed (3.14).”

The Patriots can definitely add pass rush talent. Quinn could be of great help in this aspect.
