Lakers Considering Trio Of All-Stars For Potential Offseason Blockbuster Trade

The Los Angeles Lakers didn’t do much at the trade deadline. They didn’t pull out any major moves, meaning the Lakers front office could explore an offseason trade scenario.

Rob Pelinka and his staff are eyeing several players and Kyrie Irving is one of them. It would be one of the biggest trades in the offseason, but it makes perfect sense for the Lakers.

Jovan Buha from The Athletic discussed the scenario and many analysts would agree with his take. Getting Irving and a couple of other players would be a game-changer for the Lakers.

“The Lakers plan to use the three picks that they will have available this summer … to pursue a star via trade,” Buha wrote on February 9. “Three potential targets are Donovan MitchellTrae Young and Kyrie Irving, according to team and league sources. The Athletic has previously reported on the franchise’s interest in Young and Irving.”

Pelinka acquired Spencer Dinwiddie on the buyout market, giving him a chance to test the open market in the summer.

Lakers could benefit from a trade in the offseason

The Lakers wanted Irving a long time ago. He was supposed to join the Lakers, a few seasons ago, but it didn’t happen. Mitchell and Young could be excellent additions for the purple and gold. The latter is represented by Klutch Sports Group. He wouldn’t mind playing alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

“If they keep their powder dry, they’ll have more tradable picks in July,” Kevin O’Connor from The Ringer wrote on January 30. “Three firsts and three swaps, on top of all the player assets they have. That’d be enough pieces to put them in the running for a long list of possibilities. Trae Young would likely welcome a trade to Los Angeles at any time.”

Dave McMenamin from ESPN reported that the Lakers will consider trading for a third star. Enter Mitchell and you’d get the perfect winning formula.
