Magic Johnson Heartbreaking Reaction To Death Of Former Houston Rockets Player

The NBA world mourns the loss of former Houston Rockets star Robert Reid. He lost the battle with cancer and died at his home on Monday. Tributes flooded social media since the announcement of Reid’s death Tuesday morning. Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson was devastated and delivered an emotional message following the passing of the Rockets icon.

“I’m deeply saddened by the news that my friend Robert Reid passed away today. Robert was a fierce competitor for the Houston Rockets and one of the best defensive players the league has ever seen! He was always a good host when I visited Houston, and we shared many meals together over the years. He was a great person, and this is a tough loss for his family, our NBA family, and guys like me, his friends. Cookie and I are praying for the entire Reid family, friends, and the NBA family during this difficult time,” wrote Johnson.

In his post, Johnson also shared two pictures of Reid and we can him go against the Lakers icon in one of them.

Magic Johnson and the Rockets rival made history

Johnson and Reid had a lot of great memories together. The Lakers great paid homage to Reid by remembering all the games they played and the challenge they both faced on the basketball court back in the days.

Reid joined the Rockets in the second round of the 1977 NBA Draft. He spent ten seasons with the team and helped them make the NBA Finals. However, his Rockets team didn’t have much chance against the Boston Celtics in 1981 and 1986.

The Rockets were winning games, but Johnson and the Lakers suffered terrible losses. Reid and his team sent LA home in the first round of the 1981 playoffs. They did the same five years later. The Lakers lost the chance to win the 1986 Western Conference Finals.

Reid was a brilliant player and ranks top-10 in team history. He ranks eighth in points and rebounds, and ninth in blocks.
