Patriots QB Draft Prospect Turns Heads For Wrong Reason

The New England Patriots have their eyes set on several names in the 2024 NFL Draft and a QB prospect caught everyone’s attention.

North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye entertained the crowd at his pro day. However, one particular throw wasn’t that entertaining. Maye sent a deep ball to his receiver, but missed him and the ball ended up in the crowd. Is he the right player to join the Patriots? They traded Mac Jones and have yet to find a strong quarterback option.

Patriots to make a decision on the QB prospect

The Patriots have the third overall pick in the 2024 Draft. Jerod Mayo has to fill a few major holes on the roster. The Patriots need quarterbacks, receivers, cornerbacks, and tackles. They can either use the highest pick to get a top prospect or just trade down the draft and get someone who can fit in their scheme.

Maye looked like a good option for the Patriots, but fans aren’t really excited about his potential arrival in New England. Mayo needs more than someone who is throwing passes to the crowd. Fans had expected reactions and the internet went on fire. Some of them even believe that Maye doesn’t belong in the top 9 prospects.

Jordan Reid from ESPN noted that the North Carolina quarterback had “a few errant throws early on.”

It wasn’t too bad actually. Maye found the end zone with a 65-yarder. In 30 college games, he had 8,018 yards passing for 63 touchdowns.

The Patriots were represented by an excellent group at UNC Pro Day in North Carolina. Mayo was joined by offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, offensive assistant Ben McAdoo, and quarterback coach T.C. McCartney. Patriots director of scouting Eliot Wolf, scout Alonzo Highsmith, and director of player personnel Matt Groh were also there. All these guys came to see Maye. Are they happy with his potential.

The Patriots have to make a good decision on their No.3 pick. NFL have discussed a few potential scenarios and most of these don’t include Maye as a strong option.
