Bill Belichick Notes Josh Gordon’s Expanding Role With Pats

The Patriots coaching stuff is getting more aware of the potential of Josh Gordon, and he had a really great play against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The wide out played in 63 offensive snaps, and that is more than anything he achieved in the last two weeks. He was targeted by quarterback Tom Brady nine times, and brought in five receptions for 42 yards in the Sunday Night Football game. Head coach Bill Belichick talked to reporters about Josh Gordon during his Tuesday conference call.

“I think each week his role has increased in practice and as far as the number of different things that he feels comfortable and we comfortable with him doing. I think it’ll continue to go that way. That may not necessarily correlate exactly to number of snaps. I mean we don’t sit there and count snaps during the game. I would just say that his role is expanding weekly and we’ll just see how it all plays out,” Belichick said of the wide out.

I think our passing game is improving. I don’t think it’s where it needs to be or is where we want it to be yet but its improving. Hopefully it’ll continue to improve,” the head coach said of the relationship between Brady and Gordon.

“It was fun, honestly. I think we were preparing for that all week at practice. I was expecting a little heavy of a workload, so I was just glad to have the opportunity to go out there and play. I had fun. I enjoyed it. I appreciate Coach Bill Belichick giving me the opportunity,” Gordon said of the increase in his playing time.

Brady is impressed by the wide out, too. He even said he has a lot of confidence in him. “It has just been so impressive what he’s done in a short period of time. To come in, learn the offense, have the attitude he’s had to do whatever the team needs him to do and for him to be in there for so many plays, in my mind he was just so impressive. He is a football player. He wants to be out there. He’s a competitor, made some big plays for us.”
