Decision On Malcolm Mitchell Potentially Rejoining Patriots

Former Boston Celtics head coach Rick Pitino said, “Josh Gordon isn’t walking through that door, folks. And neither is Malcom Mitchell.”

Gordon decided to leave the New England Patriots in order to work on his mental condition, but the NFL surprised him with an indefinite suspension. Gordon’s season and probably his career are over. What about Malcolm Mitchell?

Gordon will work on his mental health, and the Patriots will have to do their best to win the next couple of games. The team will play without their receiver.

Malcolm Mitchell is one of the possible replacements for Josh Gordon. Well, he may not be the best replacements, but the Patriots will sort of ease the damage they live through. The wideout has already played with the team. The Patriots drafted him in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Georgia, and had a brilliant rookie campaign.

In his rookie year, Mitchell caught 32 passes for 401 yards and four touchdowns.

New England released Mitchell this summer due to his knee issues. Mitchell still deals with his knee, and he will not rejoin the Patriots to boost their receiver unit, as confirmed by Jeff Howe of The Athletic.

Mitchell missed last season due to chronic knee issues. The very same issue is keeping him out of the field.

New England is probably checking up on all the players they have on the roster. There is almost zero chance that they sign a new player. Experts believe that Phillip Dorsett will probably get more load now that Gordon is out of the field.

“Phil’s tremendous. He’s a tremendous kid, great teammate. I think he has everybody’s total respect in the locker room on everything – his preparation, the way he treats other people, how unselfish he is, how he’s always ready for his role. You saw that in the Super Bowl last year. So, I don’t think you could ask for any more than what he gives the team,” head coach Bill Belichick said of Dorsett.
