Anthony Davis is a top target these days as almost every NBA team is trying to sign him. The New Orleans Pelicans star has even turned teams into rivals. It turns out that the Lakers are not the only team to be interested in Davis’ talent, so Magic Johnson has just got another rival.
Davis emerged as one of the greatest two-way basketball players. Many thought that he would stay with the Lakers, but it seems like Davis is ready to travel somewhere else. That’s how the Lakers got their new rival.
The competition is huge
Sports Illustrated says that the Boston Celtics will offer up former first-round draft pick Jayson Tatum for Davis. However, the forward has another option on the table.
Dan Devine of The Ringer podcast reported that the Warriors view Davis as their new superstar. Moreover, they will go for the deal next summer.
The Golden State warriors are getting ready for the summer. Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson are set to hit free agency. It seems like he will probably opt out of the final year of his deal with the team.
Durant was linked with the New York Knicks and LA Clippers.
Thompson will be unrestricted free agent in the summer. According to sources, maybe he will stay with the team. However, there is still a possibility that he goes for a fresh challenge.
Devine said that Davis is going to the Golden State due to the fact that they are parting ways with Durant or Thompson.
“The Warriors have also long had interest in Davis as a potential bridge to a new era in their dynastic operation,” Devine said on The Ringer.
“Though finding a package the Pelicans would take that doesn’t include Durant or Stephen Curry would be pretty tough. A Davis deal could alter the face of the league. And in today’s NBA, teams start getting ready for that sort of opportunity years in advance. Don’t expect the chance to make a slight upgrade to their rotation now to get in the way of that, even for teams with a chance to win the championship this season.
