Watch: Chase Winovich Had Priceless Reaction To Being Drafted By Patriots

Chase Winovich is the latest addition of the New England Patriots. Head coach Bill Belichick got the team a nice defensive end. Winowich was selected with the No. 77 overall pick in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

After the selection, the Patriots posted a video of Winovich receiving the call from the team to welcome him into the NFL. Winovich watched the draft with his friends and family.

“Massachusetts. That’s the Patriots.”

“Man, I’m speechless,” Winovich told media members during a conference call after his selection. “It’s a great honor and I’m just very lucky. I’m feeling very blessed, surrounded by my closest family and friends, so it’s a very lucky position I’m in, very blessed.”

New England took Winovich in the third round, and didn’t have much contact with the team prior to the draft.

“It’s one of those things where you never really know going into the draft process,” Winovich told reporters. “New England’s a great program, they’ve obviously done some really great things and you’re hoping your name is called and your phone starts ringing, and thank God it did.”

Last year, Winovich totaled 59 tackles, 15.5 for a loss and five sacks. During his collegiate year, he totaled 166 tackles, 43 tackles for a loss and 18.5 sacks. At the NFL Combine, he ran a 4.59 40-yard dash, put up 18 reps on the bench press, log a 30.5 inch vertical and a 116 inch broad jump. Winovich also ran a 6.94 second 3 Cone Drill and a 4.11 second 20-yard shuttle.

“I like to think of myself as kind of a junkyard dog, just tenacious, relentless effort and motor, just scrapping for every inch,” Winovich said when asked when asked about his style of play. “But at the same time, I like to think I’m slippery here – as they say in Pittsburgh, ‘slippy.’ I think I bring some versatility and I think my combine was an example of some of the speed that I have, and when you factor all of that in together, I think that makes me a pretty interesting pick and prospect and football player in general. At the end of the day, I’m just trying to go out there, prove my worth to the other guys on the team and ultimately to the rest of the world.”
