Report: Patriots Re-Sign Demaryius Thomas, Place N’Keal Harry On IR

The New England Patriots decided to put an end to Demaryius Thomas’ time in Foxboro on Saturday. The team built the 53-man roster without the veteran, and then decided to bring him back. The receiver agreed to a deal Monday, and he is coming back to New England. The information was confirmed by Adam Schefter. This happened right after Schefter reported that rookie wideout N’Keal Harry would be placed on injured reserve which made enough room for Thomas.

“Patriots now are re-signing WR Demaryius Thomas to a one-year deal, per source. Thomas was released with the idea of returning.”

There were a lot of stories regarding Thomas’ future career. Some said the Patriots were interested in bringing him back. The same sources claimed that Thomas wants to re-join his team. Well, ProFootball Talk’s Mike Florio reported that the Broncos want Thomas on their roster.

“Nearly a decade after arriving in Denver as a first-round pick, receiver Demaryius Thomas could be coming back. Per a league source, the Broncos could be bringing Thomas back to town.

“If it happens, Thomas will be working for a new coaching staff in a new offense. But plenty of other things will be familiar to the man who played for the Broncos until he was traded during the 2018 season to the Texans.

“Thomas, who suffered a torn Achilles tendon last year while playing for Houston, was cut on Saturday by the Patriots. In 10 NFL seasons, Thomas has caught 688 passes for 9,330 yards and 62 touchdowns. If Thomas returns, one of the Denver receivers who made the initial 53-man roster would be in danger of being released.”

Harry will probably return off of IR after eight weeks. He will start practicing after six weeks. The rookie caught two passes for 36 yards in the first preseason game. He was injured on the second reception and hasn’t played or practiced in full since his injury. Thomas was able to catch seven passes for 87 yards with two scores in the team’s fourth and final preseason game after they activated him off the PUP list. Thomas began the summer on the PUP list after tearing his Achilles in December.
