Report: Patriots Interested In Trades For A.J. Green & Tyler Eifert

The New England Patriots will have to reinforce their wide receiver and tight end units. They have shown interest in Bengals’ receiver A.J. Green and tight end Tyler Eifert. The information was confirmed by CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora.

“Rival general managers I spoke to agreed that the Bengals could get a first-round pick for Green, 31, if the acquiring team was able to negotiate a new deal for him and if Green returns from his foot injury soon. It is highly unlikely that Green signs an extension with the Bengals, I’m told. League sources said the Saints and Patriots are among the teams most deeply looking for pass catching help, and both would have interest in oft-injured tight end Tyler Eifert as well, who is making just $1 million this season.”

Here’s an excerpt from another column:

“The Patriots have issues at the offensive line, tight end and receiver, and are expected to push for players like Bengals receiver A.J. Green and/or tight end Tyler Eifert; those players also appeal to the Saints, sources said, who made a real effort to land Denver’s Emmanuel Sanders a year ago and likely would again.”

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady talked about the offensive struggles his team had following the Week 4 win over the Bills.

“I think we’re all just trying to improve,” he said. “We did the best we can do and today was, you know, we can do better than that. So, try to do better next week, figure out all the things that they did well. They did a lot of things well, and I’m glad we won. Glad we’re 4-0.

“You know, I don’t think field position to me, doesn’t matter that much,” Brady added. “Wherever we start, we start. We still have to move the ball for points. So, we just didn’t do a very good job, I would say, of consistently doing the right thing against a really good defense, that certainly plays well at home, but it’s good to win. Whether we win 45-40, or 45-3 or whatever it was, say 16-10, they all count the same. We just have to figure out how to do a better job on offense. Defense, I know they’re going to play great. They’re playing great all season long, and try to score more points than we did today.”
