Rodney Harrison Gives Interesting Take On Belichick’s Role In Tom Brady’s Future

The New England Patriots lost the wild-card game to the Tennessee Titans, and they may also lose quarterback Tom Brady to retirement. The greatest of all times has yet to make a decision on his professional career. Will he stay in Foxboro? Will he sign with a different team? Did he make a decision on his retirement? There are so many questions, and Rodney Harrison says Brady’s decision will depend on the relationship between him and head coach Bill Belichick.

Brady is set to become a free agent in March, and this would be his first time to hit free agency. TB12 has spent 20 seasons with the New England Patriots, and some analysts say he may go somewhere else. New England missed the chance to play this year’s Super Bowl, but Belichick is already thinking of 2020.

The NBC Sports analyst revealed his take during Sunday night’s “Football Night in America” broadcast on Belichick’s role in Brady’s situation.

“Their relationship has been kind of up and down,” Harrison said. “They’ve always had a respect for one another, but I think if coach Belichick, if he goes to Tom and he says, ‘Look, I really want you the next couple years. I’m going to take care of you. Something fair financially, but also, I’m going to add some more playmakers around you.’ I think Tom would seriously consider re-signing with the Patriots.

“He doesn’t want to go anywhere. He just bought a house in Greenwich, Conn., he has ties to the Boston area. Why, if you’re Tom Brady, would you want to go out to say, Las Vegas, and play for the Raiders when you’re already established? He just wants to know that his coach wants him in New England.”

Brady and Belichick have been working together for two decades. They have won six rings together, and Belichick is the best coach in the league. His football intelligence has helped the Patriots come this far, and hopefully, he will stay around for a while. Brady wants to be sure that his coach needs him on the roster. Let’s see what happens in the next couple of months.
