Devin McCourty: Tom Brady Leaving Patriots ‘Wasn’t Like The End Of The World…’

The New England Patriots will enter the new season without Tom Brady. Patriots safety Devin McCourty shared his take on the new situation, and let’s just say that this didn’t come as a surprise to us.

“I honestly didn’t think twice about Tom Brady’s free agency, because I was a free agent. That was my main concern, where my family would end up. Would we be back in New England? Then when I signed my deal and I was back, you kind of think of all the guys. Tom, the Kyle Van Noys, the Jaime Collins. All of those guys you had relationships with, Mathew Slater. That you kinda know, man, this could be it. That coulda been the last game I played with these guys. When he made a decision, to me it wasn’t like the end of the world.”

Brady signed a two-year deal with the Buccaneers. He left the team after twenty years. McCourty had been part of the team for 10 years. He was about to move on, but decided to re-sign a two-year deal worth $23 million.

Devin McCourty has words of praise for the GOAT

The 2010 first-round pick has been a starter for every game he has played. McCourty hasn’t missed a game since 2016. He helped the team win three Super Bowls, and also won two Pro Bowl selections. The safety tied for second on the Patriots with five interceptions in the past season.

Keeping McCourty was a big move for the Patriots. Kyle Van Noy and Jamie Collins left the team in free agency, and the Patriots need McCourty more than ever.

The main focus is finding a good quarterback for the upcoming season. Jarrett Stidham will probably start games for the Patriots in 2020.

Although fans are worried about Brady’s departure, Mccourty wished Brady well for the next chapter in his professional career.

“You become a free agent, that’s what our league is about,” McCourty said. “That’s what players before us have fought for. Be a free agent and choose. I was happy for him if he did what makes him happy.”

Brady is ready for his next chapter with the Buccaneers.
