New England Patriots Issue A Challenge To Joejuan Williams

The New England Patriots will have Joejuan Williams for another season. The team will probably give him a greater role on the defensive line in 2020. New England will enter a rather challenging season, and Tom Brady won’t be around to help the team win games. So, they have now given Williams a change, and everyone has great expectations from him.

Mike Reiss from ESPN reported that Williams is working on his versatility at the moment. He was the Patriots’ second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, and the Patriots have listed him as a cornerback.

Reigning Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore, Jason McCourty, and J.C. Jackson were on the team, and Williams didn’t really have a chance in 2019. He saw just 82 defensive snaps in 2019.

Head coach Bill Belichick likes to have versatile players who can accept many different challenges. Williams may accept several roles in 2020, and that’s more than welcome for the Pats.

Patriots have a big player in Joejuan Williams

Williams measures at 6-foot-3, 212 pounds, and he is bigger than the “regular” cornerbacks in the league. Many have compared him to Trumaine Johnson.

However, coach Belichick can boost his size by bringing him around the defense. Of course, this move depends on the opposition’s personnel. If Patriots’ opponents have a big tight end, New England will use Williams at safety.

The Patriots have Devin McCourty, Patrick Chung, Adrian Phillips and Kyle Dugger at safety. Williams was a second-round pick for the Patriots, so they will probably use him as a starter in September.

But, before Belichick uses him as a starter, Williams will have to work on his versatility.

The Patriots selected a few valuable players in the 2020 NFL Draft. Bill Belichick has great plans, and he is confident about his team and Jarrett Stidham’s leading position.

Let’s see how will the Patriots handle the upcoming season. Williams isn’t the only player to see a challenge in 2020. The upcoming season will be challenging for pretty much every Patriot player on the roster. They will all work under a new quarterback. Will Jarrett handle the pressure in 2020? His teammates like him. He has some pretty crazy skills.
