Patriots’ McCourty Twins Doubtful of 2020 NFL Season

The coronavirus pandemic has changed everything in this world including sports. The NFL had virtual meetings, and teams had virtual meetings this offseason, too. Patriots fans may not be really happy about the latest development of events. Returning to play won’t be easy and it will be done differently. The number of people who tested positive for coronavirus is on the rise, and Florida is seeing major problems. The same applies to Texas. NBA and MLB will play their games in the state of the sun. What about NFL players? Well, the McCourty twins aren’t really optimistic about the whole return thing.

The twins spoke on the “Double Coverage” podcast.

“I love how a lot of players’ attention has been on what’s going on outside of football, and I think we’ll continue to do that. But figuring out football, to me, seems to be the hardest thing right now. We hope, but I don’t know if we’ll figure it out, honestly.”

“I think it’s very different for football. You think about training camp, there’s 90 guys on the team. Not only are there 90 guys, but there’s a coaching staff usually made up of maybe 15 to 20 … and there are so many other football-essential personnel that are in the building. You’re talking about 32 teams with over 100 members that you have to house; I don’t know if it’s really fathomable for the NFL to be able to go in a bubble.”

The McCourty twins may be right about 2020

This is a rather interesting point. NFL rosters are huge. That’s not the case with the NBA and the MLB. Just one team has around 100 people. Will every player agree to thrive in a bubble? Players will have to live away from their families for a really long time.

A canceled 2020 NFL season would bring a huge disappointment for everyone, including the McCourty twins. But being worried about your own health and safety is also a horrible option. The McCourty twins are near the end of their careers and they’d rather play than retire. But, the only thing we can do at the moment is wait. How will the NFL handle the situation?
