Patriots’ Cam Newton is All Smiles in New Photo With Julian Edelman

Patriots quarterback Cam Newton and veteran wideout Julian Edelman had their training camp and they look really well together. It looks like Newton has established a good connection with his new target. Newton will compete with Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer for the starting position. He has yet to go under center. The 2015 NFL MVP shared a photo of him with Edelman.

Newton shared a photo and the caption says it all. He enjoys his time with the Patriots. Newton and Edelman will see some action later in the season, but we don’t really know much about the quarterback’s future role with the team. We’re less than a week into training camp, and Stidham has outplayed his veteran counterpart. Truth is, Newton has the highest ceiling of any player in the quarterback room. He still has a chance to get the top job.

Head coach Bill Belichick likes Newton. He also likes Stidham. Coach Belichick likes to hold his cards close to the vest. He doesn’t really talk much about his next decisions. But, Belichick did tell media members Wednesday that all options are on the table to pick the quarterback with the most repst.

“It might,” Belichick said when reporters asked whether a two-quarterback system will help the team. “I always say I’ll do what I think is best for the team, what gives us the best chance to win. Whatever that is, I would definitely consider it — run unbalanced line, double unbalanced line, 23 personnel. Whatever it is, if it helps us win, I would consider anything.”

The reps among Newton, Stidham and Hoyer have been evenly split. According to Belichick, there will come a time when things will change.

Newton is the most accomplished of the trio. However, he is coming off a season-ending foot injury. “I just haven’t had experience working with Cam,” Belichick said. “But he works extremely hard. He puts a lot into it, as do Jarrett and Brian.”

The Patriots will enter a new season and the roster is pretty different now. Let’s see how will the Pats handle the pressure.
