Cam Newton Cites Julian Edelman In Preaching Patience With N’Keal Harry

The New England Patriots saw big offensive struggles this offseason. Fans blame a couple of Patriots players for the mistakes New England made in the first 11 games of the season. Veteran quarterback Cam Newton is a top target, and now he cites wideout Julian Edelman to make things clearer.

The 2015 NFL MVP is an excellent passer, and experts rank him among the most accurate passers in the league. However, Newton has had just four touchdown passes and nine interceptions this season. Harry started the regular season as No.2 wide receiver. He is No. 3 now because of his slow start. Harry missed two games due to a concussion and 2019 undrafted free agent Jakobi Meyers is too good to be ignored.

Newton spoke on Harry’s potential, and used some wise words to make a point.

“I’m not here to judge nobody nor am I here to critique anybody,” the quarterback said. “At the same time, my faith is in whoever is in that locker room and obviously N’Keal is one of those people. Yeah, he’s young. Yeah, there are certain things that he has to get better at, but there’s also certain things I have to get better at, as well. As you grow into the player that you want to be and that you have to be, that may take longer than some people.”

Cam Newton cites Julian Edelman to explain N’Keal Harry’s situation

Harry has 36 catches for 318 yards with three touchdowns in 16 games with the Pats. He was able to catch 24 passes for 213 yards with one score in nine games this season.

Newton mentioned Edelman to help everyone understand him better.

“It doesn’t matter if you were a first-round pick or sixth-round pick or undrafted,” he said. “When you get an opportunity, sometimes it does take people a certain amount of games. It does take people a year. It does take people years a la Julian Edelman, who wasn’t even a receiver coming out of college. And I know we’re in a different age and time where just because you got picked certain then that means you have to produce faster or sooner rather than later. But at the same time, people are coming from different circumstances, different programs, different expectations of what was asked of them from their college.”

It took Edelman four years to become a consistent starting receiver. He is one of the best postseason players in league history. Hopefully, Harry will be equally successful.

Edelman was a college quarterback and the Patriots selected him in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He caught 38 passes for 359 yards and a touchdown in the 11 games he played in his rookie campaign.
