Many blame Newton for the Patriots’ disappointing season. But, head coach Bill Belichick and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels have nothing but words for the quarterback.

The Patriots saw many challenges this offseason, including the short coronavirus outbreak in October. Players entered the season full of hope, and had a really good start of the season. But, COVID-19 is not the only problem NFL players had in 2020.

Truth is, the coronavirus outbreak stalled the Patriots’ development. They had a 2-1 start of the season but lost four straight games following Newton’s positive coronavirus tests. The quarterback is the first Patriots player to get the virus.

Patriots tend to build through the regular season, and the coronavirus outbreak affected the process. Players had limited practice time in a three-week period. Most experts agree that this was a major setback for the team. Let’s not forget that Belichick was trying to get a new signal-caller up to speed. There were so many first-year players on the defense. NFL teams had no problem adjusting to the Patriots. Opponents could easily scheme against Belichick’s team. New England has a strong coaching staff and a great scheme. But, they had some struggles on the field.
