Report: Rob-Gronkowski Clone Considered Realistic Patriots Draft Target

Rob Gronkowski is the perfect role model for young tight ends. Many rising stars look up to him and try to match his greatness. Gronk decided to retire right after winning his Super Bowl with the New England Patriots. However, he did come out of his retirement to join former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Patriots may have the perfect draft target, and the young prospect modeled his game after Gronk.

Have you ever heard of “Baby Gronk”? Penn State Nittany Lions star Pat Freiermuth even wears No.87. A lot of people have compared him to Gronk.

Patriots to get their draft target

Freiermuth caught the Patriots’ attention. Head coach Bill Belichick is still trying to find the perfect replacement for Gronk. The Patriots need a playmaker from the tight end position. Mike Reiss from ESPN believes that Freirtmuth may be a good option for the Patriots. The prospect admired Gronk’s brilliance and this may bring him closer to New England.

“Penn State tight end Pat Freiermuth, who projects as an early-round pick, is a Massachusetts native (Merrimac) who wore No. 87 in college. That’s why some referred to him as “Gronk.” With the Patriots still looking to fill the void of Rob Gronkowski’s departure two years later, it would be a fun story if they turn to a prospect who admired Gronkowski as a youngster growing up about 70 miles from Gillette Stadium.”

Florida’s Kyle Pitts has great hands, speed, and route-running. However, Freiermuth surprised everyone with his physical presence. His opponents can’t really bring him down, and that’s exactly what Belichick needs at the moment. Baby Gronk may be making his way to New England.

In 202o, Freiermuth stacked 26 receptions for 368 yards and eight touchdowns. 2019 was his best year as he had 43 passes for 507 yards and seven touchdowns. His stats may not be the best, but NFL experts believe that Freiermuth could thrive well in Belichick’s system.

The Patriots selected Devin Asiasi and Dalton Keene in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Their rookie seasons didn’t end well though. Asiasi and Keene had a combined 5 receptions for 55 yards and one touchdown.
