Bill Belichick Reportedly Has 1 Main Concern With Cam Newton

The New England Patriots have several topics to handle in the offseason. Finding the next franchise quarterback is a must. Will head coach Bill Belichick bring Cam Newton back on the field in 2021?

The Patriots decided to trust Newton in 2020. He signed a one-year deal in free agency, and Belichick made him compete in training camp. Newton had to earn his job and he competed with Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer. The former first-round pick got the job and everyone had high expectations from him. Well, Newton’s first season with the Patriots was pretty disappointing. He failed to replace Tom Brady.TB12 left the Patriots to play with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and ended up winning the Super Bowl with his new team.

This makes us ask too many questions. Newton’s future with the Patriots is hanging in the air.

Bill Belichick respects Cam Newton

Coach Belichick praised the veteran on multiple occasions. He likes Newton and everything the quarterback brings to the field. However, he has one major concern.

“The only problem Belichick is concerned with is Newton’s arm strength, with Newton having suffered multiple shoulder injuries in the last five years. In 2019, Newton acknowledged on his YouTube channel that his injuries sapped his ability to throw downfield,” Boston Globe’s Ben Volin reports.

Newton has great respect for Belichick, too. According to him, the Patriots head coach is the most misunderstood person in history of sports. If you ask Newton, he will say that Belichick is a really “cool dude.”

“I think Bill Belichick is the most misunderstood person in all of sports,” Newton said this week during a podcast episode appearance on Brandon Marshall’s I Am Athlete. “He dope as sh—. He is a cool dude.”

New England has several quarterback options in 2021. Is Newton part of the plan? Probably.

The Patriots have to do a lot of thinking this offseason. Newton is a great player. He knows the game. When given the right weapons, he can do wonders on the football field.
