Bill Belichick’s Stance on Cam Newton, Possible 2021 Return

The New England Patriots had to find an instant replacement for quarterback Tom Brady. The situation was more than uncertain as the team was dealing with too many rumors. TB12 didn’t say a thing but he made a decision. It was official. He joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and went on winning his seventh Super Bowl. So, the Patriots had to work things out. Head coach Bill Belichick signed Cam Newton to a one-year deal and made him compete with Jarrett Stidham for the roster spot. Newton got the job, but his first year with the Patriots was bad. Disappointing. Terrible. Newton’s passing game was equally terrible. So, will the Patriots add great Cam Newton to the 2021 roster?

Newton and the Patriots offense did see some struggles this past season. However, head coach Belichick may be interested in bringing him back. Ben Volin of the Boston Globe has more information on this possibility.

Belichick to give Cam Newton more weapons in 2021

In 2020, Belichick had nothing but words of compliments for the quarterback. The Patriots’ offense got worse later in the season, but Belichick didn’t criticize Newton. The quarterback likes his head coach, too. Both Belichick and Newton was disappointed with the outcome, but the head coach trusted his signal caller. If you ask Belichick about Newton, he will still say that the quarterback has so much to offer.

The Patriots head coach is concerned with Newton’s arm strength though. It got worse in the last few seasons. Newton sustained multiple shoulder injuries. In his debut with the Patriots, he threw for 2,657 yards, eight touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Truth is, New England didn’t give him enough weapons. He played well until he got coronavirus. The quarterback was forced to miss a game. The Patriots can get whoever they want but they still need to give that player enough weapons. Newton lacked his weapons in 2020, and hopefully, this will change in 2021. Of course, Belichick has to sign him to a new deal first.
