Patriots Star Sounds Off on Cam Newton Potential Return

The New England Patriots missed the playoffs this past season. Head coach Bill Belichick will try to boost the roster and fill up the empty spots. Will the Patriots ask veteran quarterback Cam Newton to return to the team?

There have been several questions related to the Patriots, and let’s just say analysts are concerned. A Patriots veteran talked about Newton’s return to the field. Oh, this is really different from everything we’ve been reading lately.

Team captain Devin McCourty wouldn’t mind having the 2015 NFL MVP back in 2021. The two-time Pro-Bowl safety talked about this during a recent episode of the Double Coverage podcast.

“I’ll start off by saying I wouldn’t mind seeing my guy Cam Newton come back. I thought he had a tough (situation) coming in — no offseason, no anything. (He) played in a Super Bowl and won an MVP.”

Patriots to move on with Cam Newton, approving his return

McCourty believes there are many options for Newton out there.

“Look, Deshaun Watson: stud, Aaron Rodgers: stud, [Matthew] Stafford: stud, [Dak] Prescott: stud, [Carson] Wentz: stud, Jimmy G [Garoppolo]: stud, Teddy B [Bridgewater]: stud.”

Some fans would love to have some of these players over Newton. Newton didn’t have too many supporters at the end of the regular season.

Stafford is no longer an option for the Patriots. He left the Detroit Lions and joined the Los Angeles Rams. Stafford was on Bill Belichick’s list. But, the Patriots head coach offered too little money and Stafford asked his team to send him anywhere but the Patriots.

There aren’t too open options for the Patriots. Stafford is not the only quarterback who isn’t excited about joining the Patriots. If Belichick doesn’t offer more attractive deals, New England will have to move on with Newton, a rookie quarterback, and young Jarrett Stidham.

Evan Lazar from CLNS made interesting remarks.

Pats’ Pulpit Brian M. Hines spoke about this a month ago. Newton has an extra season under his belt and he will get more weapons in the passing game. This offseason will be much different than the offseason he had last year.
