Anthony Davis Injury Update: Lakers Reveal Timeline for Return

The Los Angeles Lakers won the first game following the All-Star break with a big win. Anthony Davis didn’t play, but his teammates are looking forward to his return.

The big man stayed on the sidelines due to a strained calf and Achilles tendinosis.

“We anticipated it’s going to be a little bit of a build-up once we got back [from the All-Star break],” Lakers coach Frank Vogel told media members following the game. “We’ll be patient. We’ll continue to compete and win games. And we’ll all be very excited when we finally get [Davis] back.”

Los Angeles will play without AD for at least two weeks. He is starting off the next phase of his rehab process.

“Anthony Davis was examined by team doctors this evening. He is progressing in his recovery and has been cleared to enter the next phase of his return to play process. He will be re-evaluated by team doctors in two weeks and an update will be given at that time.”

Lakers players can’t wait for Anthony Davis to return to the floor

The Lakers are 8-7 without AD in the starting lineup. LA is 25-13, and they are 3.5 games back of the Utah Jazz. The West is packed with competitiveness, and pretty much every game is important at this point. Vogel wants to have everyone healthy for the second half of the season and the playoffs.

“I’m looking at it as we’re starting the second half of our season tonight, so we’re 1-0 during that stretch. Nobody was happy with how we finished going into the break,” Vogel said. “Losing a couple more starters in addition to having AD out set us back a little bit. We’ve just got play through that and put that stretch behind us, because we’re still undermanned right now and we’re going to be for some time.

“We’ve just got to compete and win games. Right now we’re 1-0 in the second half, and in a couple nights we’ll try to go 2-0.”

Alex Caruso is also out. He suffered a concussion in the game against the Indiana Pacers. According to Vogel, both Caruso and Marc Gasol will miss the next couple of games. Gasol is out due to health and safety protocols. The Spanish native has already missed three games due to the same protocols.
