Patriots ‘Heavily Scouting’ Trevor Lawrence, Other Top Quarterback Prospects

The New England Patriots have to cover several major issues, and they are already observing several quarterback prospects. New England is covering all their bases for the NFL Draft. They may be looking after players who don’t fit in the system.

Jeff Howe from The Athletic reported that the Patriots are “heavily scouting” several top quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft. Trevor Lawrence is their top choice. Obviously.

“The Patriots have been heavily scouting the top five quarterbacks in the class,” Howe wrote. “Including some who would almost certainly require a trade up the board, according to several sources. That group includes Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, BYU’s Zach Wilson, North Dakota State’s Trey Lance, Ohio State’s Justin Fields and Alabama’s Mac Jones.”

Patriots to go after top quarterback prospects

There have been several similar theories about the Patriots and their next offseason move. Howe explains that the Patriots would have to trade up to get Lawrence.

Most analysts say that the above-mentioned quarterbacks are considered top 10 picks. Lawrence, Wilson, and Fields are top 5 picks. Jones is a wild card, and some analysts still say he could be picked in the top 5. Others believe that Jones will slip to the second round. Interestingly, fans and analysts have compared Jones to Tom Brady.

Johnes has been mentioned in pretty much every Patriots rumor.

Bill Belichick signed veteran quarterback Cam Newton to a one-year deal. However, the experiment didn’t work and the Patriots failed to make the playoffs. Belichick likes Newton and everything he brings in the locker room. Newton is an excellent quarterback and his running game is great. If the Patriots want to keep him around, they will have to give him the right weapons.

New England is entering a challenging offseason. Belichick will probably have to make several major moves in the next month and a half. Who is first on the list? Belichick has to make a bunch of big decisions.
