Report: Patriots Not ‘Enamored’ With Impending Free Agent QBs

The New England Patriots need to find their franchise quarterback. Head coach Bill Belichick has several options. He can choose his next signal-caller from the 2021 NFL Draft. He may also pick his next player from all the free agents on the market. The Patriots are also expected to trade for their next quarterback. According to recent sources, the Patriots may not get any of the free agent QBs. Wonder why?

Michael Giardi from NFL Media reported that the Patriots don’t really like the current class of free agent quarterbacks.

“Plenty of other teams” share this opinion as confirmed by Giardi’s report.

“Of course that could change,” Giardi tweeted. “… but as of (right) now, the several I’ve spoken (with) are hoping for other dominos to fall (and) create more — and better — inventory.”

Patriots to pass free agent QBs

Dak Prescott is a big fish on the market. He may not leave the Dallas Cowboys at this point. The list of impending free-agent quarterbacks is not the best we have ever seen. The rest quarterbacks are fringe/bridge starter types, including Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jacoby Brissett, Jameis Winston, Alex Smith, Mitchell Trubisky, Tyrod Taylor, Andy Dalton, A.J. McCarron, and Cam Newton.

The list of quarterbacks who may be traded is pretty appealing. New England may not get Deshaun Watson or Russell Wilson. However, they may get Deshaun Watson or Russell Wilson but could have a shot at Marcus Mariota, Jimmy Garoppolo, Derek Carr, Teddy Bridgewater, Gardner Minshew, or Sam Darnold.

Matthews Stafford was traded to the Los Angeles Rams for a package including Jared Goff. Carson Wentz joined the Indianapolis Colts.

The Patriots have two quarterbacks under contract for the 2021 season. Jarrett Stidham and Jake Dolegala may not see a bigger role in 2021. Neither of these players has started an NFL game.

Head coach Belichick has to do a lot of thinking in the offseason. Let’s see how will the Patriots handle the upcoming period. Will they add a veteran? Will Belichick add another young quarterback? They may also select a big piece in the 2021 NFL Draft.
