Julian Edelman Explains Why He Had ‘No Problem’ Retiring From NFL

Julian Edelman is retiring from the NFL, but he seems to be fine with the decision. It was a big move for the former New England Patriots wideout. Was it the right one? Edelman missed a big portion of the 2020 NFL season due to a knee injury. He had to undergo a surgery to fix his problem. The wideout spent a lot of time rehabbing and training. But, he wasn’t 100% ready for the big shot. Edelman is a perfectionist and winner. He would never go out there and do nothing.

The Patriots legend promised to win games until his wheels come off. Well, his wheels fell. That’s exactly what he said in his announcement. If he isn’t capable of playing at his best, he won’t even bother.

Julian Edelman knew that retiring was the way to go

Edelman retired after 12 seasons in the NFL. He spent his entire career with the Patriots. The former wideout appeared on Bartool Sports’ Pardon My Take Podcast and explained the reasons he had to retire.

“I’m not gonna go out there and try to play… where you look like a bobblehead out there, like a 36-year-old old guy lacing up the knee brace, the back brace,” Edelman said. “I don’t want to have that. I don’t want to look like that, I respect the game too much, it’s been too good to me. So it’s one of those things where if I can’t go out there and be the player that I know I am in this league and that I’ve been for a consistent period of time, you know, I have no problem walking away because I enjoyed the time that I did have in this league.”

Former Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski said there’s a 69% chance for Edelman to return and even join his current team. Gronk signed with the Tamp Bay Buccaneers a year after announcing his retirement. We don’t really believe that Edelman will do the same. He joined the Inside the NFL crew and yes, he is fine with his decision.
