Veteran quarterback Cam Newton led Patriots quarterbacks in all individual and team drills. Jones followed him throughout the session. The rookie’s scouting report came to life. Jones threw regularly with anticipation and worked through his progressions. He delivered an accurate ball and once caught TE Matt LaCosse by surprise. The tight end broke up the seams and turned for the ball. However, he found it shy of his face.

Jones hit two checkdowns for his seven-on-seven completions around the drop by practice unit wideout Kristian Wilkerson on an in-breaking route.

The rookie looked like the slightest and shortest quarterback. Everyone noticed that Newton had lost weight in the offseason.

The veteran’s mechanics were more compact on shorter throws. However, they unwound on some longer passes. One thing stands for sure, Newton had a great session.

LaCosse dove to save the veterans first throw in his first seven-on-sevens. Kendrick Bourne had a lunging grab up the seam during Patriots individual work.

The offensive line on the first snap of 11-on-11s was Justin Herron, Mike Onwenu, David Andrews, Shaq Mason, and Korey Cunningham.
