Patriots’ Gunner Olszewski Reveals Favorite Julian Edelman Lessons

New England Patriots veteran wideout Julian Edelman had a lot of valuable lessons for his teammates. They learned so much from the 2018 Super Bowl MVP. Truth is, Edelman is the best wide receiver in league history. He was really passionate about the game. Edelman helped the Patriots win a lot of games. He won three titled with the team.

Gunner Olszewski and Jakobi Meyers had the best mentor in the NFL. The undrafted rookies became key contributors.

Edelman is the perfect mentor. He spent 12 long seasons with the Patriots and decided to retire following a long battle with knee issues.

Olszewski took over for the veteran wideout as the Patriots’ top punt returner in 2019. He became a first-time All-Pro one year later. Olszewski praised Edelman for his incredible impact.

“I don’t think I can put it into words, man,” Olszewski said in a video conference. “He took me under his wing — me and Jakobi both, kind of being underdog receivers. Kobs was a former quarterback, and me, I didn’t play receiver, so (Edelman) kind of showed us the ropes. (Hearing he retired) sucked, but I know how he is. He wants to be his best out there, and if he don’t feel he can do that, he don’t even want to be out there.

“He’s the ultimate competitor, and that’s what I learned from him. Toughest dude I’ve ever played with.”

Julian Edelman had the best lessons as a mentor for his teammates

Olszewski is a former Division II cornerback. What will he remember most about Jules from their time together?

“Two words: piss and vinegar,” Olzewski said. “That’s what that dude was all about. I don’t know if I can say that on here, but those are the two things I’ll never forget.”

He added: “Oh, and I’ve got two more: competitive stamina. That was his other one. I’m sure you’ve all heard that before. Those two things are stuck in there and written down in concrete.”

Well, Edelman is gone now. He will continue inspiring his teammates to play better.
