Update On Patriots Possible Interest In Julio Jones Trade

The New England Patriots have made so many changes in the past couple of months. Head coach Bill Belichick will sure make a few more moves. The Patriots really like elite wide receiver Julio Jones, and yes, they may get him through a trade deal.

New England may be the best landing spot for Jones. The Atlanta Falcons may trade the superstar wideout in the offseason. The speculation still exists Mike Giardi from NFL Media reported that the Patriots have discussed the potential addition of Jones. The seven-time Pro Bowl confirmed Monday on live TV that he wants to leave the Falcons.

The Patriots to get Julio Jones in a trade

Greg Bedard from Boston Sports Journal talked about the recent rumors. He made his comments on Wednesday’s episode of the “Greg Bedard Patriots Podcast.”

“Well, the first thing is as far as a potential trade or where the Patriots are, what I’ve heard to this point is that they are still sort of kicking the tires on it,” Bedard said. “I don’t think they pursued it in any way really with the Falcons. They might have had a conversation or two. But really I don’t think it’s gone very far. I think they might have heard what the initial asking price was, which was maybe a first-round pick, maybe a second-round pick. I think that that’s too rich for the Patriots’ blood. Plus, they probably want something done about Julio’s money — like, the Falcons paying half of the first year or something like that.”

We don’t know how much interest the Patriots have in the receiver. He is one of the best receivers in league history. The Patriots offense could use a No.1 receiving option right now. They have Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne on the roster. Tight ends Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith are there, too. Jones is coming off a 2020 season in which he played just nine games due to a hamstring injury. He is 32 and this will be his 11th NFL season.
