Deion Sanders Has Strong Words for Cam Newton

The New England Patriots will enter training camp with four quarterbacks on the roster. Head coach Bill Belichick had Jarrett Stidham under contract and signed both veterans to a one-year deal. That’s not all. Belichick also selected a rookie quarterback. Deion Sanders took notice of the situation in New England and shared his thoughts on veteran Cam Newton.

The Pro Football Hall of Famer said, “This is it.” According to him, 2021 is Newton’s final chance to prove he is the right starting quarterback for the team. He discussed this during an appearance on the NFL Network.

“If I know Cam, though, he’s going to be ready to compete. I don’t know how long they’re going to give him, but Cam is going to be ready to compete because this is it. This is it. This is it. You don’t get this one, it’s a wrap. And I think Cam is ready to compete.”

The player called out the video from NBC Sports Boston that depicted Newton as being less accurate than rookie Jones.

Deion Sanders has a theory about Cam Newton

Sanders probably hinted at the bias against Newton.

“I know darn well Cam wasn’t that inaccurate. Who cut that tape?”

Newton struggled in 2020, but things have taken a new turn for the veteran. Fans and players like him and Belichick gave him enough weapons to win games. If Newton doesn’t lead the team to the playoffs in 2021, he won’t have an excuse.

Khari Thompson from Boston.com had something to say about Newton and his role in 2021.

“Assuming a fully healthy season, it’s unlikely Newton will struggle to quite the same extent as he did in a bizarre 2020. That said, the Patriots can’t count on his arm and legs alone to win games; they must surround him with a supporting cast that can make his job easier. Furthermore, Newton’s likely not a long-term answer at the position at this point in his career.”

Newton is well aware of the situation in New England. During his meeting with the press, the veteran quarterback discussed it. He knows that both Brian Hoyer and Stidham want to be starters. Well, he wants to be a starter too.
