Lakers Coach Is Among Favorites to Land Job with Rival Team

The Los Angeles Lakers may lose a coach and the Hall of Famer may soon land a deal with a rival. Chris Haynes from Yahoo Sports believes that Jason Kidd  may be the frontrunner to get the top gig in Boston.

Yes, Kidd may be the next Boston Celtics head coach. The big news broke after the Celtics confirmed that Danny Ainge will step down from the front office. Brad Stevens is set to be the Celtics’ new head of basketball operations. The head coach position is still empty.

“Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Jason Kidd and former Atlanta Hawks coach Lloyd Pierce are expected to be head-coaching candidates for the Boston Celtics, league sources tell @YahooSports,” Haynes noted on Twitter.

Lakers fans may be fine with this. Frank Vogel is the head coach. Well, LeBron James really likes Kidd and teams listen to him.

The Lakers coach may not land with a rival after all

In 2020, Kevin Arnovitz from ESPN reported that LA wanted Kidd just because LeBron wanted him in the coaching staff.

“One of those primary assistants would be Hall of Fame point guard Jason Kidd, whom two sources have independently said James regards as the only person alive who sees the game of basketball with his level of clarity,” Arnovitz noted. “Kidd was also known to be looking for his next opportunity as a head coach and had interviewed for the Lakers’ vacancy. The instant the Vogel-Kidd pairing was announced, the schadenfreude brigade began chattering about Vogel’s life expectancy with the Lakers, with Kidd waiting in the wings.”

In his 2020 interview on SiriusXM radio show, the Lakers head coach praised Kidd and his impact on the Lakers. He appreciates his impact and everything he did with the team.

Kidd is well aware of all the rumors about him. He talked about this on multiple occasions.

“There’s always going to be chatter — it’s the Lakers,” Kidd said at the time. “Sometimes people act like I never played a game and I’ve never been a teammate. I was a good teammate then, and I’m a good teammate now.”

Let’s see if LA will find a way to keep Kidd on the team.
